West Side Story

based on Shakespeare’s Romeo and Juliet, explores the rivalry between two teenage gangs of different ethnic and cultural backgrounds. Tony (Romeo) who belongs to the white gang, falls in love with Maria (Juliet) the sister of the leader of the rival Puerto Rican gang. The  music, extended dance scenes, and focus on social problems marked a turning point in American musical theater. Bernstein's score for the musical has become  legendary featuring as it does "Something's Coming", "Maria", "America," "Somewhere," "Tonight", "Jet Song", "I Feel Pretty" and "Cool".

 

   

Guys and Dolls

starring Marlon Brando, Jean Simmons, Frank Sinatra and Vivian Blaine. The film is based on the Broadway musical by Frank Loesser, who composed the music and wrote the lyrics with a plot that is essentially based around the activities of New York petty criminals and professional gamblers in the late 1940s.Our album features 24 tracks inc all those used in the film plus songs featured in the Broadway Show inc: Luck Be A Lady, A Woman In Love and Sit Down You’re Rockin the Boat.

is a film based on the musical by Jerome Kern (music) and Oscar Hammerstein II (script and lyrics) and the novel by Edna Ferber. Singin in the Rain

is frequently described as one of the best musicals ever made. Starring Gene Kelly, Donald O'Connor, and Debbie Reynolds and directed by Kelly and Stanley Donen, with Kelly also providing the choreography. It offers a comic depiction of Hollywood's transition from silent films to "talkies". Calamity Jane

is (very) loosely based on the life of Wild West heroine Calamity Jane and explores an alleged romance between her and Wild Bill Hickok in the American Old West. The film starred Doris Day as the title character and Howard Keel as Hickok. It won the Academy Award for Best Original Song "Secret Love” and was also nominated for Scoring of a Musical Picture and Best Sound, Recording.
